Firefox Mac taking a lot of memory space and not releasing it on closing tab

While using Firefox it takes upto 2.5gb space of my MAcbook and literally Halts my macbook. On closing firefox tabs the memory isnt released and only way to get my laptop to work is Force closing firefox

Right now it is taking 1.3 gb space with no tab open
