i just wanted to clarify, ive un-ticked show thunderbird, but in THAT window when i open Tb. i'd like to see the last email in my list and not a blank box. is that possible? or is the "location box" the only other option to fill the start page?

Chosen solution

If you had selected the Inbox and opened an email to read in Message Pane and then closed/exited Thunderbird then it should remember that when it next opens.

However, if you run products like eg: CCleaner which delete session and temp cache files then you must set Thunderbird files to be excluded.
