can't add a new account in thunderbird
I have used thunderbird as my email client on a windows 10 pc. One of the accounts is my hotmail. For the last 2 days I have been getting the message 'login to server imap-mail.outlook.com failed'. Others in Microsoft community are getting same problem. Microsoft say it is not their problem and told me to delete the account and set it up again. (someone had deleted my inbox and sent box). I deleted the account but when I tried to set it up again it said the user name and password combination was not recognised. I can access my email via the web.

Perhaps Microsoft lied? to set up an account you mausr access it. Sounds like they have all sorts of issues at the moment with non web access. See https://portal.office.com/servicestatus
Title: Can't access or synchronize Outlook.com email
User Impact: Users may be unable to access or synchronize their Outlook.com accounts while using applications or mobile devices.
More info: While we're focused on remediation, users may be able to access the service by logging in to their Outlook.com accounts with a web browser as an alternative method.
Current status: We've completed the fix and are deploying it throughout the affected environment. While the fix is being deployed, some users may begin to access and synchronize their Outlook.com accounts while using applications or mobile devices.
