You are now a registered user on this forum. You can ask or answer any question you want.

How did you register (via what page or which steps if you remember)?

I tried to find registering page. But I couldn't. So I tried to ask a question as unregistered user. Through some steps I did until there is no more answered question. Eventually registering page appeared. I don't remember exactly that The page said "You can now ask a question" something like that.

You can click the blue "Volunteer for Mozilla Support" button at the bottom of the "https://support.mozilla.org" page to go to the "https://support.mozilla.org/get-involved" page.

Click "Answer questions in the support forum" to be able to "Register to be a Contributor".

+100 This needs to be available on the Sign in page. I just spent a good long while looking for a way to register... from the "Log In / Register" page (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/users/auth) there is absolutely no link to Register. I assume most people come here to ask a question, not to answer one, so finding the register link there is ... extremely difficult.

You are exactly right. I WASTED SO MUCH TIME. Looking for a way to register in order to post to Mozilla Support. Someone really dropped the ball. But, thank you donmccurdy!

This is a joke. Like many, many people I was initially stumped as to how to register on Mozilla Support. Unlike any other Forum that I've had the pleasure of joining over the past couple of decades, there is no 'Register' link on any page. You have to spend time, wasted time, to maybe eventually stumble upon the registration mechanism. The reason I have bothered writing this comment is that I received an email today, purportedly from Chris Beard, Mozilla's CEO, expounding on how excited and thrilled 'they' were to introduce me to their brand new browser — Firefox Quantum. (I've been on Quantum for a couple or months or so at this point).

Anyway, he signs off with "P.S. If you have any questions, we're always here to help." with an underlined link to.... Mozilla Support.

Help. Really !! .....How! By being unable to simply register on the site you sent me to! Its farcical. It would be humorous if Mozilla hadn't screwed Firefox users over their use of addons. They encouraged developers to create addons for the browser and then arbitrarily decided that the redevelopment of the browser would not support said addons. Typical Ivory Tower mentality. No real consultation regards user requirements. As an IS&T pro for 35 years, I had never seen such disregard for customers, or lack of engagement with the user base. Maybe its time to move on. Thanks for the help, Chris.

The way it is now has been this way for pretty much 7+ years at least.

If Mozilla was going to implement the more traditional way of registering a account like some forum software has then they would have done so years ago.

Most people new to this site have a issue(s) they want help on and Mozilla would prefer people ask it as a new thread and not hijack an existing thread that has same or similar question. The more traditional way of registering would increase the amount of using a existing thread hijacks. Plus this Ask a Question introduces you to the Knowledge base https://support.mozilla.org/ during the process which may answer some or all of their issue(s) before submitting. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/forum-rules-and-guidelines#w_posting-support-requests

A small bonus is this has helped keep Spam threads and posts to a minimum. On the independent forums.mozillazine.org with the more traditional method of registering a new account, there have been more spam attempts vs legit posts by new members first postings each day.

Unless you have been around for a long while many may not realize Mozilla actually allowed Guest posting on support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/ during the first year. This was not the best idea then and certainly not now.

Mozilla is not really working on this old Kitsune platform anymore (unless that has changed in last few months) so Mozilla may not be doing any real new changes or features in meantime. Earlier last year Mozilla actually moved the site to a Lithium platform that they had high hopes for but it had issues and Mozilla then moved it back to Kitsune after a while.

Btw now that you all are registered you can discuss about this in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors as Firefox section is for desktop Firefox.
