Hi mav52,
You could try to install one of the many available "night mode" add-ons: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/android/search/?q=Night+mode&type=extension.
These will replace the glaring white by more eye-friendly colors.
Best regards, BelFox

Why am I being given a android add on,. I have a windows PC.,not a phone. It should be easy to change the screen color in Firefox
Hi, I do not know why got mobile, I would expect maybe from the Mobile Forum and forgot when searched for the Extension to switch to Windows. There are many here for dark, you will have to go through them yourself to determine if useful to you and search yourself in the search panel in the below URL. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/search/?platform=windows&q=night+mode
Turning the screen Dark is not easy and only becomes easy in Windows 10
If possible to do in userChrome will take some coding and reading to do.
All screens are overridden by the site you visit. So if it is white you get white as that is what the site has coded for you to see.
You can use a program like f.lux and / or Nitshift
