Since MAY 019 update Why is firefox 67 messed up. Constantly changing proxy setting. frequently runs new tab non stop across top of page, eliminated all add-ons
Since May 2019 update WHY is Firefox 67 so messed up? Constantly changing proxy setting and not able to set it and have it remain set for no proxy. Frequently runs new tab non stop across top of page and unable to stop it from running , I have to log out completely to get the running tab to stop. But it only starts up again when I open Firefox again. \ Eliminated all add-ons and extensions. I had set up extensions with new directions to allow the specific extensions to be downloaded.
Constant message can't find server col122.mail.live.com, when Firefox opens and sometimes this occurs when proxy setting has changed on its own . But this "can't find server" message shows up almost every time I open Firefox and is NOT always associated with proxy changes.
This update has been a BIG HEADACHE !! AND THEN TODAY THE WHOLE THING CRASHED my computer. It took me over 5 hours to get my computer up and running again. However, I am Still getting the message "can't find server col122.mail.live.com" and proxy changes randomly.
HELP PLEASE

Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove your Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not remove your Firefox profile data (such as bookmarks and passwords), since that information is stored in a different location.
To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, please follow these steps: Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
- Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Windows: (Note: Check both folders.)
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
- Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
- Windows: (Note: Check both folders.)
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.
Please report back to say if this helped you!
Thank you.
Hi Binky03, that's a lot of issues.
(1) Constantly changing proxy setting and not able to set it and have it remain set for no proxy.
That should be stable. Do you have any proxy-related extensions which might change it? Otherwise, see: How to fix preferences that won't save.
(2) Frequently runs new tab non stop across top of page and unable to stop it from running.
What was the link to? See: Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link.
(3) Eliminated all add-ons and extensions.
Hmm, Firefox shouldn't uninstall extensions on its own. Perhaps there is a glitch in the profile underlying these problems. More on that at the end.
(4) I am Still getting the message "can't find server col122.mail.live.com"
Microsoft changes its servers when it migrated Hotmail and Live mail to the Outlook platform. Try using https://outlook.live.com/ as your base address instead of the old ones that might no longer redirect.
Firefox 67 usually creates a new profile named default-release but many users are having migration issues. In that case, it may be more practical to roll back, as follows:
Profile Manager Page
Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.
This page should list at least one profile and could list many. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not use any Remove buttons!)
The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:
This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.
Do you have another profile named default or default-longnumber listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.
If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.
If it IS what you want, back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.
Any improvement?

Hammo time 6/15/19 The clean Firefox 67 reinstall seems to have helped. All the new tabs running across the top of page are no longer visible. The proxy has stopped changing by itself. I checked one banking site for my statement and it opened without triggering the run of new tabs. Thanks for your help. I still need to try the recommendations from jscher2000 for other issues. Thanks Binky 03
Note that you should never bookmark a link with a dedicated server link like "col122.mail.live.com", but instead bookmark the link as "https://mail.live.com" (i.e. leave out the part that specifies a server balancing domain).
cor-el
I checked my bookmarks but I did not find col122.mail.live.com. But I did find col126.mail.live.com which I deleted as per your suggestion. I will keep checking to see if maybe this solved "can't find server message" in Firefox 67
Thanks Binky 03

Hi Aftab, you could start a new thread on this. However, this forum provides mostly end-user support, meaning, interactive use of Firefox, and not Selenium support. Perhaps the Developer Tools forum would be a better place to start a new thread? See:
