Thunderbird 78
Upgrade to Thunderbird 78 (several variants tried) prevents connection to Ionos, my ISP. Tried different settings for security.tls... but still no connection. Tried reinstalling, upgrade to 78.5.0, switch from 32-bit to 64, still no connection. Ionos support tried for 30minutes +, still no connection. Reverted to 68.12.1, connection restored. But needed to generate new profile, now all my message history is locked in a v78 profile which v58 can't access.
Please, how do I get a working v78? Or get my v78 messages back into v68? Can I ever trust Thunderbird upgrades again? v78 rates quite high on my personal scale of software upgrade disasters. What is Moxilla (not just volunteers, but the core team) doing to resolve the issues caused by v78?
BTW, when the installer recognises the Ionos account, it sets the German server, not the UK one. Yet another issue that had to be resolved manually.

I am having the same problem, no connection to Earthlink for email. My gmail accounts work fine. I have changed TLS setting to 1, still doesn't work. Regardless of whether I enter a password for an email account or cancel all of the them, Tbird freezes within about 5 minutes of running. I'm on Catalina 10.15.7 running Tbird 78.5.0
I have downloaded 68 but can't get my profile that was converted to 78 from 68 back in 68 form. I have tried to export folders but that is not working either.
This is a disaster.
Eventually I found a download source for 68.12.1. (The helpful Mozilla site links led to release notes and no download). Then I restored profile (both local and roaming) and .ini files from the backup the night before I installed 78. Together with stuff retained on the server, I think I've mainly recovered -- only missing any auto-sorted items from a 20-hour window on Saturday.
I don't want to have do that again in a hurry.
