Thank you.

I looked up your suggestion about "app-specific password" and found the solution using hotmail "app password". Here is a Microsoft Link to generate the "app password" (along with instructions on how to use it) (the password is unique per hotmail account and per mail app)

it worked with thunderbird and also Mac Mail for older macOS that don't support 2FA.

Is there a way to keep hotmail 2FA and use thunderbird? If not, could this be a future feature? for instance adding an hotmail account with 2FA active on apple mail (recent versions) or MS outlook, shows an extra popup where I can enter my 2FA code.

Yeah, using an app-specific password and NOT your account's primary password. I have multiple Outlook.com accounts in Thunderbird and ALL of them have 2FA enabled, but I use IMAP instead of POP. They work just fine using their respective app-specific passwords. There is a known server-side issue with POP access for Outlook.com accounts that I'm not sure Microsoft has resolved yet.

POP - I can receive but not send hotmail from Thunderbird Using OUTLOOK from OFFICE 2019 allows send and receive I am giving up on a Thunderbird after almost 15 years and switching to Outlook 2019 How do I transfer my 15 years of archived emails to Outlook ? Outlook needs a PST file and Thunderbird / via Mozbackup produces a MBOX or PCV file !
