I've read articles here about session restore, and in the menus I think I've made the right choices, but cannot get session restore to work.

By the way the session DOES restore if I quit FF using the FF menu, but in the past all I had to do was hit the X in the upper right corner to close FF, and the session would restore next time I opened FF. thanks

Upon reopening after a normal shutdown, Microsoft Edge had taken over my laptop. I have always used FF. I've gone through all the suggested options to get my FF session to restore with no luck. I've used Restore Session many times in the past with no problems. Worst part is My Bookmarks are gone. All my bill paying and hundreds of other things are in there. Couldn't possibly recreate all that. I am desperate.

It's possible there is a hidden/off-screen window that prevents Firefox from actually exiting with the X click. Two suggestions:

(1) After launching Firefox, if your session isn't restored, use the History menu to recover lost tabs. Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > History > Recently Closed Windows
  • (menu bar) History > Recently Closed Windows

(2) After closing Firefox, check the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) to see whether Firefox is failing to shut down. If you don't see Firefox on the Processes tab, check the Details tab for firefox.exe.

Hi Jan, if this thread isn't helpful, could you start a new thread? Here's a link to the form:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/desktop/form

And could you look at the first section of the following article about the Profile Manager and report in your new question whether you can find any useful information there:

Recover lost or missing Bookmarks

First of all, thank you for replying! Second - I'm 82 and not a techie, so this is a struggle for me.

Your suggestions only came up on my mobile app. I'm using my laptop right now. Can't get back to the screen on my phone where you offered the options to try. I did get to the point of the Import & Back Up in the Library, but when I clicked on Restore it showed under today's date only 10 items. That can't be correct, so I was afraid to click on the "are you sure you want to go to this version of your Bookmarks."

I DID HAVE an icon on my desktop with Old FF Data, but since Microsoft Edge "took over" my desktop has only about 1/4 of my icons and unfortunately the Old FF Data one is gone.

How can Microsoft Edge do that!? In the past ME has asked me several times to switch to them, but I always say NO. I really like FF.

You saw my original Q from my laptop (because I wasn't using my phone at all) so why didn't your response show up on my laptop instead of my phone? Is it because you were using YOUR phone to answer my Q?

Need to step away. Been working on this for hours. Going to walk on a nearby indoor track and clear my head. Don't know what time zone you are in. I'll be back around 7 pm PST. Could resume then or maybe tomorrow?
