Reading the second reference from cor-el turned up about:config. One can go there and monkey with network.security.ports.banned (I'm not sure whether adding network.security.ports.banned.override is necessary; I tried both at once and something worked) to get around this blockage. To make it work, it is necessary to restart Firefox.
