Did you try reading the article I linked to ?
( If not maybe if you click on this link and read it now it will help you understand my questions)

Search Bar
Are you able to use the search bar, that is usually on the right, and includes an icon for the search engine used with a small arrow that gives you a choice of search engines. Using keyboard key s Ctrl + K will usually move the mouse pointer there.

  • Does that let you choose search engines, and do they then work ok?

Location Bar
What happens when you enter text in the location bar that is not a correct web address. For instance key in the word test and click on the green arrow.

  • does that use google ?
  • or is it using ask.com ?
  • or does something else happen ?

Search from Google site
What happens if you key in or use a link Google.com

  • does that go to the google site ?
  • does that then work as a search from Google ?
  • if not what does happen ?

The most likely reason is that you have installed some sort of toolbar. You will need to disable or uninstall it. It is probably a plugin, it may be visible and uninstalable from firefox's menu or you may need to use your Windows 7 OS to find and uninstall the program.

I have deleted the Ask.com tool bar in uninstall programs. It never really appeared. It's the search bar that's the problem. Ask.com has replaced Google. Nothing I do seems to get rid of it. It not a plug-in that I can tell.

John, I clicked on the arrow and there was Google. Clicked on it and all's great. Tried several searches and all were by google.

Thanks, Jack
