when i have firefox open and scroll down , the screen dims until it is almost 100% dark . When i scroll up it gets brighter again

Did you check the mouse wheel settings in the Control Panel > Mouse?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
