I have folders on my bookmarks toolbar, when I click on them sometimes I only receive the shadow outline of the folder with no text in the list.

If I move off the folder and click back sometimes the list will fill in, other times it will not. When the list is not there is is just the shadow outline with a transparent middle.

I've noticed a glitch with one of my add-on pop-up menus (from the Add-on bar) that is similar, there's about an inch of the menu missing and I have to mouse off and back on again; usually once is enough to fix the display. I don't think it has affected anything else in my case.

I don't have a solution for you, but I'll experiment and see whether I can come up with any ideas.

Meanwhile, if you notice a pattern with what is behind the menu, for example, a plugin like Flash or Java, that might be worth noting.

This happens when your bookmarks folder contains a broken link. In my case it was a "server not found" error and I guess that Firefox was waiting for the icon.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.
