cannot update: windows cannot access the specified path
I cannot update to Firefox 27.0 Repeatedly get the following error message: "Windows cannot access the specified path. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." This makes no sense. How did I get to Firefox 26.0?
Chosen solution
Thank you. I don't know if your suggested solution works because I did a routine "Program check" in the Windows Control Panel Troubleshooting interface but this time around, when I clicked on Firefox Update option that has been routinely coming and failing to take effect; it appears to have taken effect! I am now on Firefox 27.0 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have no idea how or why! But since I am the ugliest and stupidest of my father's children, my incomprehension does not surprise me. Needless to say, though I am glad however that my Firefox is up-to_date; I am even more glad that the world still has got good and kind people like you and IDEATO in it.

Hello kae1, check windows firewall (or your personal firewall if windows firewall is deactivated) , make sure to allow firefox access. Check your antivirus also.
thank you
Is the Firefox.exe program file still present in the Firefox program folder?
- (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
- (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
- Firefox 27: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
- Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
- (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
- (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
- It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
Thank you. But your suggested solution did not work. But that may not be due to your suggestion. I am a bit of bozo and in all likelihood, I may have misapplied your suggested remedy. For years, I've been screaming "STOP!!!! STOP THE WORLD, I WANT TO GET OFF!" but so far no-one's paid me any attention. Nevertheless, thank you.
Just to confirm:
You did mark the above reply by ideato as the solution.
Did that reply solved your problem or do you still have this problem?
You should see an Undo button next to a reply if you marked it by accident.
