Check my OS version before you say browser is out of date. http://mzl.la/MVQ0Bb
see Question.
I know what version of Firefox and OS X I have. I believe that info is available to webservers in the User-Agent request header. Why not check that and not bother folks who have the latest browser version for the latest operating system for their hardware? If I had an extra $2000, believe me, I would get a new Mac.

To: Cor-el . This reply is posted with TenFourFox via floodgap.com just installed per your info. Excellent answer. [btw my computer thinks I am using Firefox now and willl not allow me to open Firefox while TenFourFox is open.]
To: James. Thanks for careful reading of the situation.
To: John99. Whoa! Is that actually the User-Agent header from my browser? How could you get that? Or just a typcial example.
My post was really intended for whoever wrote the code that looks at the browser and suggests updates. Because I was using Firefox I thought it might be someone there. It was on a Facebook account page, so maybe it was written by them. I see these messages on other websites from other, sometimes identified, sources. I do not find them helpful so this whole thing is just a kind of crank letter. Someday I will retire my PowerBook G4, but it is still working pretty good. I like the power pc with underlying unix os. I will miss that when I go to the intel machine.
Thanks to all.

That is because you have an old Mac OS version that only supports an old Firefox version that exposes more about the OS.
For an unofficial Firefox 24.6.0 ESR compatible version that runs on a PowerPC Mac with OS X 10.4.11 or OS X 10.5.8 you can look at TenFourFox.

Hi FresnoBob,
http://mzl.la/MVQ0Bb = Firefox 3.6 is no longer supported
Forum software shows
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.2.25) Gecko/20111212 Firefox/3.6.25
So I guess the Firefox problem is as explained in this article
So I am not sure who or what has been saying your Firefox is out of date, but it appears you are on Firefox 3.6 and could upgrade to Firefox 16 That could be a slight improvement.
As of Firefox 4.0 you needed Intel hardware. Though the old OSX 10.5 was still supported until Firefox 16.0. As of Firefox 17.0 to current you need OSX 10.6+ (Intel).
John99, the poster is using a Power Mac or PPC and not a Intel so the Firefox 16.0 will not work.
Firefox 3.6.28 was the last for the old Firefox 3.6 by the way.
As cor-el mentioned the TenFourFox is the only easy way to have a more current version of Firefox on PPC Mac.

FresnoBob, when one posts a new thread it takes the useragent the browser used is displaying, in the "More System Details" link on right sidebar.
This helps on what Product section to put it in as there is Firefox (for desktop), Firefox for Android, Firefox OS. However the poster can select otherwise.
