Msge will not send, looking for non-existent attachment

It's an ongoing conversation between myself and 2 others - Three messages to date, none of which have attachments or include "attachment" text.

PROBLEM - Compose a reply, press "send". Box "looking for attachment" appears, ongoing .... eventaully press cancel within that box, then try to save message in drafts. That too does not work - impossible to save, so new message is lost. Workaround - copy the reply, paste into a new message, then send - went OK. BUT - this lost the chain of preceding messages.

This is not the first time - very time-consuming. Any ideas as to why, and how to resolve?

from the message menu (alt+M) select forward as > attachment and send me one of the mails that is causing this issue. Email to unicorn dot consulting at gmail dot com. I think the mail will refer to an image but need to see the source to really be sure. It may even be something your not seeing.
