After today's OS update message previews are no longer working. SOLVED by Thunderbird Conversations 2.8.1

I updated my Mac OS this morning and the message preview stopped showing any mail previews. Everything I have is imap.

I've tried deleted/repairing the index files with no luck.

OSX Yosemite Mac OS 10.10.4

As I write this, I found safe mode and it works. Now to figure out what broke.

The plugin "Thunderbird Conversations 2.8.1" broke. I disabled it and all was well again.

That would then mean it's an addon, or hardware acceleration causing this. What have you found?
