Couldn't access account, (pop3 error) nor accounts settings, now whole acct deleted. Are folders or account recoverable?
Problem began with a pop3 error. Nothing had been changed to cause the error. Tried to access the account/server settings. New error appeared with any click saying "an account with that name already exists" . Tried to delete an old account that was listed but never used. However it deleted my main/default account from the left column but still shows it in the account settings and under "get messages from..." I have begun re-downloading all of the messages still on the server but it is putting them in the local folder and still does not show the name of my main account in the left column. Do I have to rebuild everything from scratch or is there a way to put this back as it was. And if not, how do I show the account in the left column again and not have everything in the 'local folder'. Or what else should I do at this point to get back to somewhat normal? Thanks

This sounds like you have a pop mail acount set up as a Global Inbox. When this occurs there is a pop mail account in the Account Settings. There is no mail account listed nor any folders in the Folder Pane. Get Messages will show the account name because you have pop mail account. Emails are downloaded and stored in 'Local Folders' mail account.
How to change to a standard mail account with folders separate from 'Local folders';'
Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the pop mail account click on 'Advanced' button Select : 'Inbox for this server's account' click on 'OK' click on 'OK' to close and save Account Settings.
Additional: Close and restart Thunderbird
