I have another problem presumably related to this one https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1085282?fpa=1 which despite your help remains unfixed.

In my Inbox all the messages before 23rd Sept 16.14 are visible in the list view but when selected the pane remains empty as is the actual email when opened. The number of messages affected is 1,216. The emails since that time up to the present are OK. All other folders remain functioning normally. This split in the Inbox content seems related to the time in which I carried out the 'email move' action that precipitated the other problem.

It's a POP3 account and I'm running Vista.

Thanks - Anthony Rae

right click and select properties and then the repair button. This will probably cause all messages prior to 23 Sept to disappear. Repair is an index update, not affecting the actual mail store.

My guess is your folder is corrupted and the file will require manual editing to recover the messages that vanished, that is if they are recoverable at all.

Please return to your previous thread with this issue. Yes they are related and no I do not have time to pursue it with you.

Matt

Thanks for this. You say 'My guess is your folder is corrupted and the file will require manual editing to recover the messages that vanished', but I'm afraid I don't know what 'manual editing' means or how to do it. Can you provide a link which will explain that?.

just go to your old thread, and ask there. It is messy and not easy to explain. It is a tedious process using a text editor.
