You might have turned on something called "caret browsing" by accident. To turn that off, you can use either:

  • the F7 key
  • the Options page: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced, on the General mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages"

Success?

Note that this is an accessibility feature of Firefox.

You can disable the F7 key by setting accessibility.browsewithcaret_shortcut.enabled to false on the about:config page.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Thanks much, f7 did it and the config page made it permanent.
