I've tried every known password but they're ALL rejected so I cannot send any e-mails at present. Receiving them's OK as is the password for receiving e-mails which is still being required despite having unticked "Use a Master Password" - I used to use the same password for both so I don't understand what's happened to change the one needed to the Outoing Server..

Account passwords you told Thunderbird to remember are protected by the master password. The master password is not your account password. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Master_password

You cannot send or retrieve mail without a password. But you can tell Thunderbird to remember the password, so that you won't need to type it every time you want to retrieve mail. As you said, typically the password for sending and receiving mail is the same.

What exactly happens when you try to send mail? Can you post a screenshot? http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem

Many thanks "Christ1" for your helpful advice. I was trying to work out how to send you a screenshot as suggested when the e-mail got sent! This was after trying various means and passwords since bnefore 5pm this afternoon so I haven't a clue what was wrong now. Either way, thanks to your support IT WORKS NOW - and I've written and sent another e-mail just to make sure. Thanks again for your time and interest.
