All Thunderbird passwords disappeared. Trying to reinstall TB useless
Thunderbird 38.4.0 on Ubuntu 14.04, kernel 3.13.0-74-generic (#118-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 17 22:52:10 UTC 2015), GNOME 3.8.4 (Ubuntu 2015-12-02)
This morning the passwords of all my email accounts disappeared. Starting TB, it opens correctly but can't send/receive any email. No error windows. Tried to remove+reinstall TB with Ubuntu Sw Center but no change. (The only unusual thing I did before this error was removing and reinstalling Firefox: is there any cause/effect relationship ?)
Going to TB Console, the first error is Timestamp: 09/01/2016 15:15:14 Error: NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIPK11Token.initPassword] Source File: resource://gre/components/crypto-SDR.js Line: 85
Tried to search for a solution on the Internet but found nothing useful.
- I have backup copy of all my email accounts' passwords*, but can't find any way to re-input them: Edit/Preferences/Security/Saved passwords gives an empty list. At the lower right of this window, just above "Close" button there is a white button (no text on it). No change clicking on it.
Never set up a master password.
Anyone can help ? Thank you

SOLVED With a few test it was clearly a data (.thunderbird) issue, not an installation issue. So I restored (in another location) a backup of .thunderbird directory that I knew it was fine. With meld I compared old (working) and new (not working) directories. All suspects fell on cert8.db file, that was missing in the new (not working) directory. After restoring it everything restarted.
Always do backups.

In the previous post library version was incomplete. This is complete
Library Versions Expected minimum version Version in use NSPR 4.10.10 4.10.10 NSS 3.19.2.1 Basic ECC 3.19.2.1 Basic ECC NSS Util 3.19.2.1 3.19.2.1 NSS SSL 3.19.2.1 Basic ECC 3.19.2.1 Basic ECC NSS S/MIME 3.19.2.1 Basic ECC 3.19.2.1 Basic ECC
The print information is not only removed, I am grateful. It is a total waste.
Looking at that error. are you using signed mail? or encryption? S/Mime or one of the encryption add-ons. enigmail perhaps?
No signed email, no encryption whatsoever. Just old plain email, unencrypted.
I hardly can find any cause/effect relationship, but something in the back of my mind tells me that the uninstall+reinstall of Firefox and the corresponding "Ubufox extensions for Firefox" has something to do with it. This has been made with Ubuntu Software Center.
In the same morning, but before this reinstallation, TB was working fine (I received some messages).
Thank you for your time.
