Since I switched to my laptop, I only have my old bookmarks (thanks to sync) but history and cookies never save at all. How can I solve this problem? Thanks!

The history & cookies clear themselves after I close firefox. Also, in the preferences history & cookie saving is enabled.

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history then make sure that you do not remove the history and the cookies.

  • Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.
  • Clearing cookies will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an allow exception you want to keep.

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and if present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
