I am trying to find out if I have been successful in installing an add on (auto-resize-image) into Thunderbird and I am being asked to register or log in, as I have only just registered today I am well aware of my password etc. and yet I am being asked to log in or register ! As I right this it actually shows that I am logged in, where is the logic to that ? How do I look to see if the add on is installed, how do i activate it when I wish to send an attachment such as a Jpeg on a Mac ?

Although I used method one and I did restart Thunderbird after install I eventually found that for unknown reasons I had to do restart a second time. It was then installed finally. The one thing you mentioned that did help me was to click onto Extensions, the one that looks like a jigsaw puzzle !

I had only clicked Add-ons as I had no idea that it would show up under Extensions, may be simple to you, but not to me. After finding it there it was easy.

A little patience on your part would go a long way. Who knows why I had to do restart twice, one of those things you probably don't even have an answer for.

You don't need to register or log on to use Thunderbird or its add-ons. So I must ask you to explain a bit more clearly quite what you're doing and what you're trying to do.

Tools|Add-ons|Get add-ons

No login or registering needed.

There are two main methods of installing an addon.

Method 1: 'Tools' > 'Add-ons' or 'Menu icon' > 'Add-ons' TYpe into search to get list of addons matching search. Once you locate an add-on you like, click on Install, wait for it to be downloaded, then click on Restart Thunderbird if prompted.

Method 2: You accessed an addon at this link:

You clicked on the download to get an +.xpi file downloaded to your computer - possibly to the 'downloads' folder.

In Thunderbird 'Tools' > 'Add-ons' or 'Menu icon' > 'Add-ons'

click on gear wheel icon and select 'Install addon from file' locate the file and clickon Open.

The Addon will be installed. You may be prompted to restart Thunderbird.

You can see what addons you have installed here: 'Tools' > 'Add-ons' or 'Menu icon' > 'Add-ons'

click on the 'Extensions' icon - looks like a jigsaw piece.

I used method 1 to install, but I wish to now know how to see if it installed correctly, how do I search to find it, also if it is installed how do I activate it to automatically pop up when I add an attachment, remembering this is on a Mac. When i had a non Mac PC it came up automatically when I selected a photo.

Please read my previous comment as it fully answers this part of your question. re: image to aid the typed instructions. Just for you, I've added the addon to my Thunderbird to show you where it is in the list of extensions. It is at the top of the list. It is shown as enabled. See below.

re : how do i activate it when I wish to send an attachment such as a Jpeg Open a new Write message. Add a jpg attachment

On 'Composition Toolbar' you should see a new icon called 'Resize'. click on the 'Resize' button to see drop down options. see image below.

more information with images can be located at the addon webpage.

Q: Do you see the Auto Resize Image' in your list of extensions? Q: If yes, do you see 'Resize' option on the 'Composition Toolbar' in a new Write window ?

more options

In a new Write window: On the Composition Toolbar 'Resize' > 'Settings' allows you to chose various settings.

Right click on attached image will also offer 'resize' options for that image.

Much more info with images on the addon webpage.
