Gmail informs me that someone is trying to sign into my account from Fierfox.

Firefox is a web browser not a company.

You can potentially get this sort of message as a heads up if you say sign into Gmail with a different browser and or OS than you usually sign in with.

Hmm, Firefox doesn't check whether a user has authorization to try to log in to a website. How would it know??

Could you double-check that it isn't coming from your Firefox, for example, through an add-on such as an email notifier? You can review (and if necessary disable) extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right.
