Thunderbird stops responding if any action is taken while mail is being checked and downloaded.
for example. clicking on an e-mail to read the message or clicking on the arrow to scroll down while the software is attempting to down load messages results in the software not responding. This began with the latest update. Once messages are downloaded everything works fine.

What is your anti-virus software?
I removed my add ons and solved the problem. For some reason thunderbird was having problems connecting to the internet.
