Can't Connect to Imap Server. gmail. "Configuration could not be verified - is the user name or password wrong?"
Help. I have been using Thunderbird with no problems on my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.10.5). Google notified me of a possible security threat, so I changed my Google password. Since that time, I have been unable to receive Gmail email with Thunderbird.
I tried adding an account, and selected "use existing email" and entered my new email password, but nothing changed. I continued to get the message, " Unable to connect to IMAP server".
I just deleted my gmail account in Thunderbird, and added a new account, and entered my gmail email address and new password. The process did not work and notified me, "Configuration could not be verified - is the user name or password wrong?
Any suggestions?
Frank

When setting up the Gmail account in Thunderbird, make sure that you use IMAP, SSL, and OAuth2. Google want people to use these settings. See the screenshot below for the settings to use when setting up Gmail in Thunderbird.
Well, Thunderbird found the email configuration for Gmail in Mozilla's ISP database, but when I click "Done", I get an alert , "Incoming server already exists".
What should I do next? My emails are still accessible and displayed on Gmail's web site. I want to re-synch and connect Thunderbird to this account and these emails.
Any help appreciated.

That is because you already have one account set up using that e-mail address.
On the left side in the normal folder view of Thunderbird, right-click the existing Gmail account and choose Settings.
In the Account Settings window, click the button on the bottom left called Account Actions, then choose Remove account.
Then click the Account Actions button again and choose Add Mail Account to set up the account again, with the correct settings. Make sure you use the correct password.
Hi Bruce,
Thanks for your help. I am getting the message: " Unable to connect to IMAP server. You may have exceeded the maximum number of server connections."
The maximum number of server connections to cache is set to 5.
What can I do?
Unable to connect to IMAP server. You may have exceeded the maximum number of server connections.
I assume that this means that you got the account working in Thunderbird?
How many devices (computers, tablets, smartphones), are accessing this e-mail address? If there are too many, this can happen.
For each computer using Thunderbird, change the "Maximum number of server connections to cache" to 1, and see if this helps.
