what is the latest version of firefox, and what is the esr channel?
My PC is very slow and has v 51.0.1 at the moment. It will not update and it says that i am on the esr update channel? What is that?

The current Release version is 53.0.3.
Hers is an explanation of what ESR is. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/ Intended for "organizations", but no prohibition for regular users to use ESR - I use it myself.
Firefox 51.0 IS NOT an ESR version, 52.10 ESR is the current ESR version, with 52.2 due to be released on 06-13-2017.
And the Firefox 52 ESR version are all that is left for WinXP users; unless you have a newer Windows OS that you are running Firefox WinXP Compatibility mode. The will prevent you from downloading a newer version of Firefox from Mozilla.org .
