TBird just automatically updated yesterday to 52.4.0 and now my Collected email address book has disappeared and my local Mac address book is blank. About every 3rd or 4th restart of Tbird seems to find the Collected email address book, but then the next restart it's gone again. Same thing with my local Mac address book, sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not, but aways empty with no names. Never ever had an issue with Tbird before until this version update. This is driving me nuts, and totally getting in the way of me doing my work.

Step 1, does the problem occur if you start THunderbird in safe mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

same results whether in safe mode or regular mode.

Collected Addresses icon is always there in Safe mode, sometimes there and sometimes not in Regular mode. The Collected Addresses book is frequently re-appearing in regular or safe mode as if nothing was wrong and has 4330 names in it. Mac OS X Address Book icon always appears in Safe mode, sometimes there and sometimes not in Regular mode. But the Mac OS X Address Book is always empty when it's visible, no contacts in it even though my Contacts app on my Mac is/are fine.

anything interesting in tools > error console?

Yikes. I'm just a daily TBird for Mac user who accepted the latest upgrade couple days ago, not a developer, so I don't really know what I'm looking at in Tools>Developer Tools>Error Console. What does it mean?

There are dozens of messages there like this: 2017-10-11 16:12:01 autosyncActivities ERROR OnDownloadError: Inbox

and like this: DEPRECATION WARNING: Encoding to non-UTF-8 values is obsolete You may find more details about this deprecation at: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=790855 jar:file:///Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/Resources/omni.ja!/components/mimeJSComponents.js 443 MimeConverter.prototype.encodeMimePartIIStr_UTF8

and like this: 2017-10-11 16:01:25 gloda.index_msg ERROR Exception while attempting to mark message with gloda state afterdb commit [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE) [nsIMsgDBHdr.getUint32Property]" nsresult: "0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE)" location: "JS frame :: resource:///modules/gloda/index_msg.js :: PendingCommitTracker_commitCallback :: line 165" data: no]

Nothing else then in error console I take it? (a screen shot is fine)

Any publishing tools installed? And how many fonts do you have installed on this Mac?

Does https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=800279#c23 help?
