The latest update says that it's suppose to fix a lot of things, but in fact it has done the exact opposite here on my 3 computers. It's very bad.

It has become slow to respond, stutters badly and sucks up memory like a vampire sucks up blood to the point that it just doesn't respond at all.

This did not happen until the latest update was installed. :-(

Is it possible for me to roll it back to the previous version?

If chunks of your bookmarks are missing from their usual locations, you could try restoring a backup. Please see this article: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer.

Hi, try reducing the number of multiprocesses: Go to Options > General - Performance, then deselect 'Use recommended performance settings' and change 'Content process limit' to a smaller number - try 1. See - Firefox's performance settings, and Startup, home page, tabs, and download settings.

If that doesn't help, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
    (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause. (AdblockPlus is a prime suspect)

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

The number of multiprocesses was already set as you suggested and I had to restart FF as it bogged down again, but another FF update just came through on the restart so I'll see if that fixes things or not.

If things don't improve, I'll uninstall FF and reinstall it fresh as the years of updates on these installs maybe the problem.

Did you try Safe Mode in case an extension or hardware acceleration is causing problems?

You can disable multi-process windows in Firefox by setting these prefs to false on the about:config page.

  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false
  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

Well uninstalling and reinstalling seemed to be the only answer, but I just got another update that has totally destroyed my bookmarks this time.

Are these blunders going to continue?

Hi Wiggo100, if you just installed Firefox 57:

There is a "real" bookmarks menu button for the toolbar. You can add it from Customize, or use the "Library" button as described in the article linked below:

No it does not.

For years I've had my bookmarks divided into special subject folders and now I just get a portion of what I had and they're the most useless of them.

It seems that after the hassles of the last few so called updates that I've experienced lately I may have to go looking for a browser that doesn't give me a headache and treats my bookmarks correctly instead of destroying them.

I'm very disappointed in the direction FF has taken. :-(
