Forced to switch to IMAP from POP by Compuserve/AOL and messages now auto download in spite of TB settings. I use Mailwasher to vet incoming emails before downloading and want to continue doing so.

IMAP doesn't "download". It shows you what's on the server. And most servers now "push" the email at you, rather than waiting for the email client to ask for it.

Your best option is probably to take Thunderbird offline, and enable the connection only after you have done your Mailwasher vetting.

Thanks for the reply. That is a decent work around but wish there was an actual solution.
