Bookmarks.html doesn't import to another laptop with an older version; should I delete Firefox , re-install, and then import the html file into a clean copy?

My bookmarks.html is over 2Mb. I had a crash on one laptop recently and swapped the HDD for a clone from almost 7 months ago. I exported the html file from the other laptop and tried to import it to the clone to bring it up to date. Firefox froze.

Should I uninstall Firefox from the clone, reinstall a fresh version, and then import the bookmarks into a clean program?

Do you have access to any files on the other hard drive? Perhaps you could dig up something from the bookmarkbackups folder in your old Firefox profile folder.

Note: Since that is on a hidden path, make sure Windows is set to show hidden files and folders: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files

Then you could use the Restore feature -- note that is completely replaces the 7 month old bookmarks, so you might want to export first, them just in case.

Thanks, that worked. I copied my most recent backup from the other laptop to a thumb drive and then restored from that one, so now I'm synced.
