the data detox raises some interesting questions, mainly how do we limit the ability of 'Fingerprinting' and enforcing DNT.

the data detox kit is a great tool. the reality is that when utilising the ideas presented, more questions are raised and a few are answered. why does Panopticlick : 1. fail the test -Does your browser unblock 3rd parties that promise to honor Do Not Track? 2. fail the test - Does your browser protect from fingerprinting? it does indicate that my browser has a "nearly unique fingerprint". yet i have diligently applied settings as suggested. Are there some other settings one can utilise without causing oneself more angst and limiting ones ability to traverse the internet

Note: because tracking techniques are complex, subtle, and constantly evolving, Panopticlick does not measure all forms of tracking and protection.

Within our dataset of several million visitors, only one in 512368.0 browsers have the same fingerprint as yours.

Currently, we estimate that your browser has a fingerprint that conveys 18.97 bits of identifying information.

Do you mean this?

Fingerprinting is an issue, but I am not aware that many sites use it. If you employ the tracking protection feature or tracking blockers such as Blur, Disconnect, Ghostery, or Privacy Badger, then the number of scripts computing and using a fingerprint likely is very small.

Some users have special needs to avoid identification at all costs, for example, political dissidents living under a repressive regime. A mainstream browser like Firefox probably is not private enough in that case.
