How do I stop Tbird from saving outbound emails into the DRAFTS folder....

Look under Tools > Account Settings > Your account > Copies and folders, double check all the options there.

What operating system are you using Thunderbird with ?

You posted here from Firefox for Windows so I assumed you used Windows.

Windows 7 Ultimate...

Did find ACCOUNT SETTINGS under the OPTIONS menu and CPOIES and Folders under that....progress...

Not seeing anything specific about saving an outgoing email to DRAFTS tho..

Any ideas ?
