Updates stalled at Release 16 and won't up download updates. Should I uninstall and reinstall the latest release?

My Thunderbird Release is stalled at 16 and fails to upload new releases. Should I uninstall Thunderbird and reinstall the latest release. Can I attach to my old profile under the latest release (52)?

You don't need to uninstall. Just install over top from https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/

And it does not to hurt to have a good backup of your Thunderbird profile https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile

You don't need to uninstall. Just install over top from https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/
