Hello!

I've FINALLY update my mac from a Mac Pro that could only operate 10.7.5 to a new iMac in 10.13 (High Sierra)... I was finally able to update Thunderbird (and donate!) from 45.8 (highest on old operating system) to 60!

I was able to install my email accounts on the new Mac, and was even able to load my old profile and back emails though this handy guide :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer

I could receive and read emails, however when I would try to Reply / Reply All or even compose a new email, Thunderbird 60 would freeze. I would have to force quit and restart.

I've tried starting in "safe mode", I've reinstalled Thunderbird 60 fresh and new. Has anyone had this issue and discovered a solution??

Could it be that my 45.8 profile was just too old? ... I really just need my last years worth of email data and contacts on the machine, is there a way to simply isolate and replace those files??

Anyone have any suggestions??

So I did some thinking. I reinstalled 45.8 on the High Sierra operating system. Then I overwrote the old profile over my new one. It worked.

It's automatically updated the version to 52.0 and it's working, I can email, I can respond to emails and it does not freeze.

When I tried to update 52 to 60, it froze again, completely.

I'd really like to hear from the Mozilla development team on what is going on with 60.... Any thoughts?

Several things.

1. Mozilla do not develop Thunderbird. It is a community project with it's own funding and it's own couple of staff.

2. This is a support forum, not a developer forum. Developers are rarely seen in support forums anywhere.

3. Freezing on sending is often a side effect of anti virus products. Do you have one?

Hello Matt.... I do not use an anti-virus product.

Hello Wayne, I already solved my own problem... I've marked it now to avoid further confusion.

What was the cause? It helps to tell us so we can pass on the information.

Hello Wayne, I already stated that answer and marked it as "chosen solution"... Look after my question, it's there.

What you wrote about isn't a solution, it is a workaround - because it still fails in version 60

If you test version 60 you would want to start the Mac in safe mode and also start Thunderbird in safe mode

Hey Wayne, I'm a graphic design, not a software engineer.

When I try to install 60 and operate in safe mode it doesn't work on a Mac.

If what i described isn't a solution, have at it "Top 25 Contributor", solve it and let us know about it.

Until then I have work to do.

Unfortunately I (and most of the volunteers here in support) don't have a Mac. But I appreciate your situation.
