Firefox 56.0.2 gives SSL_ERROR_PROTOCOL_VERSION_ALERT when I try to watch videos on vidtodu.com. No problems until a few days ago, now the page does not load, Firefox just gives the error message. I use NoScript and AdBlock Plus on that website only allowing the basic website to load. An example of a video I am trying to watch https://vidtodu.com/gmue3ve4ea1o

Is this anything to do with the certificate snafu of a few weeks ago? No problem watching these videos on the site using Chrome, which I hate, but find myself using more and more lately. Also have the same add-ons in Chrome.

The server only supports TLS 1.3. Update to the latest version of Firefox. https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/

Not going to update as I want to keep my legacy add-ons. I'll just continue to watch those videos using Chrome instead.

Thanks for the reply.

Hello goodwitch,

Would you try this please :

Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar TLS.VER

Look for the preferences :

Security.tls.version.fallback-limit Security.tls.version.max Security.tls.version.min

If any of these preferences is bolded ("modified" or "user set" ) : right-click => Reset to restore the default value.

If you had to change anything, then close and restart Fireox.

None of the 3 lines you typed were changed, but 2 others were. I'm adding an image as it would be quicker than trying to retype all the info.

The server only supports TLS 1.3 like posted above and the TLS 1.3 implementation in Firefox 56 wasn't ready to be enabled, so trying to enable TLS 1.3 in Firefox 56 won't help and Firefox might crash. You will have to update to a Firefox version that has enabled TLS 1.3 by default (59 or later).

Thank you for the fuller explanation cor-el. Now I understand the problem better with using my older version of Firefox. Unfortunately I am not willing to upgrade to a version where I can no longer use my add-ons so will continue using Chrome just to watch those videos.

Those of us using older Firefox versions are now running into more problems while needing our legacy add-ons to still work causing us other newer problems. Such is life, everything always changes.
