Since I could not drag and drop from the address bar to the desktop to create a URL shortcut, I was looking for help and found this article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/windows-administrator-launcher-process- bugfix, but when I re-enabled UAC, I got stuck in the endless loop of permission for Firefox.

When does Windows ask for permission for Firefox? Is it at startup, or when you open a new window/tab, or at some other point?

Do you have Firefox set to run as administrator? If so, try turning that off:

Are you starting Firefox as administrator?

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.

You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab.

Make sure all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
  • "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected

Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder.

You can also try to install Firefox as a normal user.
