Unable to open links in new tab
I have tried previously listed fixes, like changing browser.search.openintab, browser.urlbar.openintab and browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInTabs to true, and of course the checkbox is selected in my preference to open links in a new tab but none of those have worked. I already know about Cmd/ctrl+click but the point is I shouldn't have to do that when I've already stated the preference and it is a pain when you are sifting through long pages of search results. I am using Google search and there is no option in Google preferences to open in new tab, so I'm assuming this is on FF's end.

Hi misspril, in the Google preferences (https://www.google.com/preferences), the checkbox is labeled
[x] "Open each selected result in a new browser window"
What that does is add code to each link to direct Firefox to open it in a new window instead of replacing the results page. Once you turn that on, the normal Firefox setting on the Options/Preferences page --
[x] "Open links in tabs instead of new windows"
-- should divert each new window to a new tab instead. Does that combination of settings work for you?
What about sites where the links are not coded to open in a new window?
Firefox does not have a general setting to send ALL links to a new tab. Instead, it has the option to divert new windows to new tabs instead.
If you want to send ALL links to a new tab, you can use an add-on like the following to modify the links in each page:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/open-link-with-new-tab/
Does that help?
