On reddit.com, whenever I try to download a gif from a post on the website, Firefox tries to download it as an mpeg-4 file, and as soon as it finishes, it shows up as a gif file on file explorer, and does not work when I try to open it. This doesn't happen on any other website, and I use reddit very often, is there a way to be able to download gif files as they are instead of mpeg-4 files?

A lot of websites have animated GIF images that are actually short MP4 video files.
Such a media file probably needs to be saved with a .mp4 file extension to make them work properly.
Some websites cause confusion where the link has a .gif file extension, but the file that is send has a .mp4 file extension.
Similar cases with JPG/WebP images have been reported.

Isn't that working for you if the files have a .mp4 file extension ?
