Can you still use the Thunderbird interface? try to start thunderbird in safe mode go to the option startup thunderbird with all addons disabled / extensions in the menu. if thunderbird in safe mode responds as normal working again then try to find out which addon could be interfering with this and manually check which one it could be or is.
