My e-mails stopped arriving because my box was full after someone sent me an enormous file...

I have now managed to partially empty the box – but the blocked e-mails from the past 24+ hours have not arrived. Are they lost forever?

Think of your email address like a bucket of water. The enormous file filled the bucket up and everything else after it ran over the sides and was lost.

Some senders might retry delivery, but I would guess you will not be receiving most of the mails lost in the process. That is the risk providers take when limiting the size of mail storage on their systems and not limiting the size of email received. (most do both.)
