How does the translator determine when it is activated? Does the translator give the ability to translate selected text, or just the visited page?

I was trying to find a site to test it. I found this.

Currently only full page translation is available for the main language of a page, so your example would not be expected to translate.

May I ask if you have an addon preference, perhaps Firefox Translations, or Simple Translate?
