When I click on links from a Google search I am frequently re-directed to unwanted sites. When this happens I often see in the address bar a symbol that looks like a handwritten 2. Microsoft help guided me in getting rid of this same problem in IE but it did not go away in FireFox. When I enter the same url in the address bar, I get the correct targeted site.

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs. You need to use all programs because each detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.
