On Mac OSX 10.4.11; using Google: the 'search' and 'numerical advance page' functions become unavailable after initial search is made on Google front page. These functions work again when switched over to the 'Image' search mode - the problem seems fixed when switched back to the 'Everything' search tab, but the same problem resumes if returned to the Google front page.
