Are you using one of the experimental ARMv6 nightly builds? The HTC Hero is not compatible with the normal ARMv7-optimized releases. See the system requirements section at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android

Note that it states you might be able to run the experimental builds.

I have this same problem. FF doesn't actually FC with the typical dialog, just quits immediately after displaying the "Firefox is loading" message. Running eViL's NXSense 1.21.3 on rooted NexusOne. Here is logcat:

Might be some noise in there as I'm not sure how to filter just for fennec lines but the scary stuff seems to be the E/AK8973 ( 777): Failed to open the temporary file.
