Why can I open multiple windows in safe mode, but not in regular?

For a while now, I haven't been able to open multiple windows in Firefox. Additionally, when I close Firefox, it doesn't really close. I figured this out when I kept trying to open a new window and nothing happened. I finally went to my task manager and found that Firefox was still running, even though there was no visible window open, so I had to end it and then open firefox again. When firefox is running in safe mode, this isn't a problem--I can open multiple windows just fine and when I close it, it actually closes. So my question is really, how do I go about fixing this or figuring out what is causing the problem?

Disable those three Java Console extensions and the Skype extension, and see they are causing that problem.
