the file, edit, history, bookmarks,etc line disappeared from my firefox browser - tried downloading again did not help how do i repair this? windows system

i am using windows xp have the latest firefox download everything was working well but the other day the file, edit, history, bookmarks, etc line disappeared from the top of the browser line. can access internet and websites but obviously cannot save or edit or access bookmarks. tried downloading firefox again but the problem remained
