When I open a link and instruct to open in a new tab , it switches me to that tab !

I have under tools>options>tabs>

unchecked "switch to new tab immediately"

And it still switches to the new tab, this is frustrating...

Have you tried restarting the browser?

If it's still giving you trouble you could probably find an add-on that does it. At least until someone gives you a better answer than me. :)

This issue can be caused by an extension or plugin that isn't working properly.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

I fixed it by disabling the Divx add-ons in Firefox. Hope that helps you

I found 2 things that seem to have solved this problem.

I had started with "open new window in new tab instead" enabled - when I disabled that, most websites started working as expected with the switch immediately option disabled. Mozilla.com did not and still switched immediately.

Disabling the IE Plus extensions now allow Mozilla.com to work as expected. Don't really know if the 2 things are connected - but anything that works could be helpful for someone...
