After bookmarking a site and it appears among my bookmarks; when I return to bookmarks later that bookmark will no long be listed. Are the bookmarks limited to a specific quantity? Why do they disappear?
As noted in question, sites I have bookmarked recently will not be listed in my bookmarks after a couple of days although sites I bookmarked a few months ago remain stable and visible. The total quantity of bookmarks seems to remain about the same causing me to wonder if there is a limited # of sites one can bookmark or if I've configured it in some way that limits the number. Anyway, it is frustrating when I've bookmarked a site and then want to return to it but it is no longer listed

If you are clearing your browsing history at end of session, or using private browsing there is not history created.
If the bookmarks are okay in the sidebar, and Library list, but not on the Bookmarks (menu bar) drop-down or the Bookmarks in the toolbar then take a picture of your toolbars and follow directions in

Make sure you don't have read-only (write-protected) files or hidden files in your profile, which would result in lots of copies of files that can't be saved with their proper name but have numbers added (1) (2) (3) to their file-names.
